The participation of the angels was an essential part of the prophetic progress of the story of redemption from the book of Genesis to the book of Revelation. We are aware of the angelic activity and the participation of angels visiting Abraham and telling him of the news of Sarah’s pregnancy as well as the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah. The seed was coming and yet there is judgment against sin as depicted in those cities.           

The angel of the Lord spared Abraham from sacrificing his son while at the same time the angels were ministering the fulfillment for that seed - Jesus Christ at Calvary, where the sacrifice was completed.           

Angels led in the ministry of Moses and Joshua in redeeming them from Egypt and preparing them for the promised land. There were definite times of testing, but also times of protection when enemies tried to destroy the seed coming from Israel.           

Just as angels prepared the main characters in the Christmas story, that same preparation was being done as the Word of God was revealed many times by angels in promises that God was making to Israel. They knew God keeps His word, even if it takes thousands of years. We often have a very difficult time waiting on God, but not the angels because they see things we do not. They see a sovereign God who will do what He says in His time. They have the insight of eternity. We do not. This angel of the Lord revealed that God kept His promises long after many would forget because God is faithful.           

Angelic messages were given to the women at the empty tomb of Jesus. An angelic message was given to Philip in a vision to preach the good news to the Ethiopian so the gospel would go to that continent. An angel came in a dream to a Gentile, Cornelius and to the apostle Peter, so even Gentiles would know the good news of salvation in Jesus Christ.      

🤔Hebrews 1:14 “What are the angels, then? They are spirits who serve God and are sent by him to help those who are to receive salvation.” so we see they were sent to those who would become saints.

There are miraculous ways they intervene, such as when an angel shut the mouths of the lions when Daniel was thrown into their den. Angels delivered several apostles from jail in Acts 5 and an angel delivered Peter from prison in Acts 12.

Since Pentecost we believers are given the Holy Spirit of God to dwell within us and be our guide, our teacher, the revealer of truth.

Angels are participating in our world today. Sometimes we know it and most times we don’t. If it is important to God for us to know what they are doing, He will let us know. It is enough to trust that God is at work and uses His heavenly hosts to carry out His plans. That is true even in our lives and when our lives are over on this earth Luke 16:22 tells us that angels will carry us into glory.

Prayer:  Lord, sometimes these things are a bit confusing for us, please give us a spirit of understanding to see how and when you are working in our life through the Holy Spirit and your ministering Angels.
