1. After the death of Moses the servant of the Lord, the Lord said to Joshua son of Nun, Moses’ aide: 2 “Moses my servant is dead. Now then, you and all these people, get ready to cross the Jordan River into the land I am about to give to them—to the Israelites. 3 I will give you every place where you set your foot, as I promised Moses. 4 Your territory will extend from the desert to Lebanon, and from the great river, the Euphrates—all the Hittite country—to the Mediterranean Sea in the west.
God had a plan for His people. God carried out His plan by using a variety of people. He had a plan for Israel and he had a plan for Moses. Now He revealed His plan for Joshua.
What is God’s plan for my life? I knew that God called me into ministry when I was in high school. It felt right to be Biblically trained so I went to seminary. In serving the Lord I prayed about a wife, having children, whether or not to be a pastor or a chaplain. At the right times and with God’s leading, each door of opportunity either opened or closed. Even in retirement I had peace doing what God would have me do.
We see God’s greater plan revealed in Scriptures. This plan was spoken to Abraham. The people were to possess this land of promise. God used people to carry out that plan. He used people of faith. The ultimate plan was and is to redeem sinful man and bring them into an eternal relationship with Him in glory. His plan was and is to destroy the works of the devil. He used and uses people that are willing to respond to His call.
God has a plan for 2024 that is far greater than our comprehension. In this world in which we live God also has a plan for us separately. I am not so sure it is so much our part to agonize over discovering that plan as it is to be in the will of God in living our daily lives in fellowship with Him.
We are to live each day in a close relationship with the Lord. Reading His Word. Praying, Doing what we know is our responsibilities as husband, father, grandfather and such. Taking care of our daily needs in health, reading, cleaning, fixing things, shopping, eating, sleeping etc. That is God’s will as good stewards.
Each day I pray, “Lord, I’m available to be used today. Guide me in my activities and in my rest.” Each week planned and unplanned circumstances arise.
Application: What has He prepared you for during 2024? What does He want for our church? The songwriter wrote, "Where He leads me, I will follow.” Be what He wants you to be. Correct what needs to change. In the silences fill your soul and heart with worship, truth, and music.
Watch what God does.
Pray: Lord, I’m available to be used today. Guide me in my activities and in my rest.
