“Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword?... No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
A wise man is called “the father of wisdom;” a very foolish man “the father of folly.” The Messiah is called here, in the Hebrew, “the Father of eternity”. That implies Jesus is eternal. That to Him, beyond and above all others, eternity describes Him. Jesus always was the agent through whom the world was created according to John 1. He is the image of the invisible God. By Him all things were created.
The everlasting Father reminds us of the permanence of our salvation. Our Everlasting Father, Jesus Christ, gives us everlasting life! We will have a lasting relationship that does not end. Once we become a child of Christ’s, we are His and He is ours forever. Nothing in all creation will be able to separate us from His love. Not even death itself.
One thing I count on for all eternity is that there will be a reconnecting with those who are brothers and sisters in the faith together with our Everlasting Father. Jesus never drifts apart or loses touch with us. In Matthew 24:35 Jesus said, “Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.” They are also eternal.
love is eternal. I have often quoted at funerals the hope that is ours because of our relationship with Jesus and it is important to remember that He is the Everlasting Father only to those who are part of His family in Christ. The notion of the universal fatherhood of God and the universal brotherhood of man sounds nice, but it is not Biblical. If you are not a child of Christ you are a child of Satan. Spiritually those are the only two Biblical options. The Lord is willing to adopt you into His family. It takes a simple act of sincere belief.
Jesus is everlasting, He is with us in the present day. He is alive and ever interceding for us. Christmas was over 2,000 years ago, but He is alive today. We tell the stories of history and talk about the time centuries ago when Jesus lived on earth. Our focus is on what those historical events mean to our present spiritual reality. Because of what happened in Bethlehem, on Calvary, and at the tomb of Joseph of Arimathea we now have a present relationship with God.
earthly fathers are also a picture of our Everlasting Father. The command to honor your parents, obey them, and bring delight to them stands as well. In a greater way Jesus is to be the object of our attention, our worship, our love, and our obedience.
Everlasting Father is a declaration of His faithfulness, His trustworthiness, His goodness, His love and His mercy. Praise Him for this today.
Everlasting Father, thank you for adopting me into Your family. In You O Lord, I am blessed forevermore.
