Merry Christmas! -

His Name Shall be Called King of Kings

Isa 9:7 “Of the increase of his government and peace there will be no end. He will reign on David's throne and over his kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever. The zeal of the LORD Almighty will accomplish this.”

There are many names ascribed to Jesus, but one that carries over into the last book of the Bible is King of Kings. Revelations 17:14 “They will wage war against the Lamb, but the Lamb will triumph over them because he is Lord of lords and King of kings—and with him will be his called, chosen and faithful followers.”

There is a story of a king with great wealth and influence. It was announced that he desired a new set of clothes. One of the best tailors was instructed to spare no expense to bring raiment for the King. He showed the him various designs and ideas, but each was rejected. The king finally said. “I will design and make my own wardrobe.”

Into a secluded room he worked. When he came forth with his new outfit, the attendants gasped, their mouths dropped, and no one was more dumbfounded than the tailor. Out came the king arrayed in clothes of a peasant, dirty cloth, and tattered edges. He announced that he was now ready to go in and out among the subjects of the land.

This is an illustration of the incarnation. This demonstrated the wardrobe of our God who humbled himself and became lower than the angels, dressed like His subjects. He clothed Himself with flesh and blood and walked among us. I can imagine the gasp, the open mouths, of the angels in glory to see Jesus so confined to a baby’s body, yet they announced His kingly coming.

conclude this week the Christmas series and the names of coming Christ from the book of Isaiah. There is a further name that isn’t mentioned exactly here but implied in verse 7. The name is King. This child born in Bethlehem was to take over the government of the world. This child was born a king for the kingly office, with kingly power. For in that birth was the fulfillment of many Old Testament prophecies.

Messiah was always the hope of Israel. In 2 Samuel 7 David was promised to have a descendant upon the throne of the Kingdom always. King David symbolized the conquering King and his son, King Solomon, symbolized the reigning and ruling king of peace.

The people kept looking for one who was promised, the Messiah, the rightful King of Israel. An anointed one who was chosen like David was, by God Himself. He was to redeem the people of Israel from the governing forces and bring the judgment upon their foes and rule over the nations. The Messiah was to accomplish this with all the zeal and authority of the Lord God Almighty. He was to rule over all the nations and of His kingdom it will never end. Was it any wonder they waited with great anticipation?

It was to the virgin Mary that Gabriel revealed these significant words, “He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most high, the Lord will give him the throne of his father David, and He will reign over the house of Jacob forever. His kingdom will never end.”

The Prophet Isaiah lays before Israel the coming King of Kings and Lord of Lords. We see this One who came to Bethlehem, came as a King. All the world will bow in His presence and by His authority He will rule forever.

This Christmas day, lets pause and worship our King Jesus.
