In the Galatians passage today the certain words underlined drew my attention: 4But when the time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under law, 5to redeem those under law, that we might receive the full rights of sons.
What made the time right for God to invade the world? Time is relative to us, but from eternal eyes it is only for our purposes. When Jesus came into the world, He subjected Himself to His Father in heaven but also to the human world they created. Part of humbling Himself was to constrict Himself to time.
He decided when this world needed light into darkness, vegetation, and water. He decided this world should have life in the form of various animals and then the unimaginable happened He created man in His own image. There is a connection with our created unlike anything else.
I think of the word “sent”. I must accept the mystery of the unknown. There is so much beyond our understanding. I think of my dogs. We relate in a personal way. Sometimes they wag their tails when they look at me. I watched Sadie lick Judi’s hand. I am guessing she might think/hope there is a hint of salt or a crumb of food, but when we look at her, the tail starts to wag.🤔 There is a relationship between our thinking pets designed by God. Imagine the depth of the relationship people can have with each other and with God Himself.
The virgin birth was God invading a human body in a miraculous manner. Unlike any other body He was both human-divine. Jesus was created to represent us before a holy God. He was a thinking, feeling, moral being, but more than that- He was supernatural, beyond our nature. He needed to grow into a man, limited, but understood completely the divine. He was sinless, perfect in character.
Jesus became human and lived under the same rules as everyone else (born under the law), but unlike everyone else, He followed them perfectly. His perfect obedience qualified Him to take humanity's place before His Father and free us from the law's impossible standards. Sinners who deserve death and eternal separation from a holy God can now come by faith into His holy presence. He redeemed us under the law by willingly becoming the sacrifice for our sins and accepted by the Almighty.
I think about the rights we have as Christians through the eyes of God. I am unlike most humans. God decided to come into my soul and heart to allow me to be in His eternal family. This is ours for the asking. He now makes me and all my brothers and sisters in Christ His family. It can be yours also for the asking.
Merry Christmas!
