Praise is Expressed for God’s Provisions - Psalm 65:8-12

8 The whole earth is filled with awe at your wonders; where morning dawns, where evening fades, you call forth songs of joy.
9 You care for the land and water it; you enrich it abundantly.
The streams of God are filled with water to provide the people with grain,  for so you have ordained it.
10 You drench its furrows and level its ridges; you soften it with showers and bless its crops.
11 You crown the year with your bounty, and your carts overflow with abundance.
12 The grasslands of the wilderness overflow;  the hills are clothed with gladness.

I am so glad God is involved in the world and all that is in it. He hasn’t left us on our own, but is close to us in His daily management.

One lady teased me regarding the weather. Pastors are somehow supposed to control the weather or at least have some “in” with our Creator to put in requests and get what we want with divine intervention. When they complain to me, I say, “I’m in sales not in management.”

God doesn’t share management with anyone and that in and of itself is worth praising. A lot of people tell God what He should do, but He does all things well. Since He created this planet, He certainly knows how it operates and sees to it Himself that it operates within the boundaries He set in motion.

I thank God for the land and enrichment from rains and snows to fill lakes and streams. All the earth gives shouts of joy at harvest time. God takes care of the crops. The ploughed land is watered by God's Almighty hand. Man ploughs and sows, then God takes over. David says, "You crown the year with your goodness". From the first flower of spring to the last Christmas rose, God is good. It is only the greed of man which has changed large portions of the earth into dust bowls.

Some commentaries think that this was written as a Thanksgiving harvest song. It was worship to God for the bounty received. Many churches have harvest displays with cornucopias overflowing with produce from the horn of plenty. It is a symbol of the way God gives us what we need. He gives oxygen in water to fish and plants. He has given some management of the world into our hands – let's face it, we do have responsibility of maintaining it, but let’s not fool ourselves. We cannot make rain. We cannot make sunshine. We cannot cause a seed to germinate. We have not invented soil. We can only take what He created and learn what we can with observation and partake with God as partners in planting, watering, harvesting and caring for His creation.

Application: Are you in sales or management? Let us give the management to our Creator as intended, the one and only manager.

Prayer: God, this is the season we turn our eyes to heaven with thanksgiving, for these things and so much more, we praise You!
