“A wise man will hear and increase learning, and a man of understanding will attain wise counsel.” - Proverbs 1:5
“The counsel of the Lord stands forever, the plans of His heart from generation to generation.” Ps 33:11
“But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere.”James 3: 17
A counsellor gives counsel. There are many types of counselors. We have counselors in school and counselors for financial planning. We think of counselors who give advice before weddings or when someone is seeking direction for well-being in life issues. A legal counselor is an attorney who knows the law and will seek to give correct legal advice that will benefit his client. The President has men and women on his cabinet to give him counsel in making not only national and international decisions but what the international implications are as well. No one person can have all the wisdom or knowledge to make best choices.
One lady came to her pastor with many problems. He responded by saying “I don’t know the answer to your dilemma, but I do know someone who does.”
“Who is he sir, for I would like to make an appointment to see him?”
“His name is Jesus Christ.”
If I wanted to go to a human counselor, I would choose one whom I felt had wisdom. I want someone who is knowledgeable in the areas of my concern, but when it comes to many life issues human counselors lack the wisdom and knowledge that only God has.
Jesus understands all things. He became a man so as to identify fully with all our problems. He was a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief. He was tempted in every way just like we are. He experienced discrimination, abuse, and misunderstanding. He was overworked and underpaid. He had sleepless night and sweat drops of blood. He was physically abused and crucified unjustly.
What makes the coming Messiah not just a counselor but a wonderful counselor is that He is God. He is the sum total of all knowledge, all wisdom, all guidance, all direction, all truth, all counsel and all insight. He knows everything about everything and is never wrong. He has knowledge of everything in the universe, of mankind, of marriage, of parenting, of faith, and of finances. He has all knowledge of the past, present and future. All things, all purposes and plans belong to Him. He even knows what is in your heart!
James 1:5 “If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.”
