We Experience Growth - Mark 4:40-41

40. He said to his disciples, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?”

41. They were terrified and asked each other, “Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him!”

A scientist wrote recently about the value of lightning.  He stated that lightning is essential to our survival. Very few people really enjoy thunder and lightning storms. They knock down trees, disrupt electrical service, and threaten life, but scientists understand that Nitrogen is vital to plant life, but extremely inert. If it were not, we would all be poisoned by different forms of nitrous combos. Because of its inertness, it is impossible for us to get it to combine naturally with other things. How, then, does God get the nitro out of the air and into the soil? He does it by lightning. One hundred thousand bolts of lightning strike the earth every day, creating one hundred million tons of usable nitrogen plant food in the soil every year.  The storms that frighten us provide for us and protect us.

The storms we dread in life can strengthen us, too. When this ordeal on the lake was over, the disciples were more convinced of the deity of Jesus! They would remember this incident and be strengthened by it for the rest of their lives - and so should we!

He is God come to earth to seek and to save that which is lost. He is the Great Shepherd who cares for His sheep. He is the way the truth and the life. He is the conquering king under whose banner all the world will declare His Lordship. He is the lover of your soul. He is the Prophet, the Priest, and the King. He is your friend and mine. He is Jesus Christ whose works make manifest the truth even when nature is overridden.  When the storms come, don't panic. Trust God.

Sometimes we ask, “Does Jesus care?”  He does care in demonstrating His sovereignty in all these areas where we have pain. Nothing can touch the believer without the sovereignty of God's plan. God is victorious in all these areas and will be seen. No moral, physical, or spiritual danger can come without His sovereign control and will and can only go as far as He allows. Just like in the book Job. It all has to be within the control and boundaries that God allows.

Death still has a sting and grave has a victory. Yes, we feel the sting of death, but Paul was quoting Psalms. When we shall be glorified in heaven, then we will see there is no sting nor victory by death!

What matter of man is this that even sea and wind obey? We will never have a satisfactory answer. Over Two millenniums have passed and all of the world powers have not affected mankind as much as Jesus Christ.  What manner of man is this? He is the fairest of 10,000, the Alpha and Omega, the First and Last.

He sees us in our storms and is The Source of “Peace, be still.”  Even when our faith is small and shaky.

Application: Ponder who He is and bow before Him!

Prayer:   Oh come let us adore Him, Oh come Let us adore Him, Christ the Lord – the Alpha and Omega.
